President John F. Kennedy once said, “Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.” As the pace of technology innovation increases in the Intelligent Transportation space, chances are you may be finding it harder and harder to keep up. As a leader in your organization, you’re expected to keep up with the latest innovations and determine how these innovations can impact your organization, all while ensuring that your current systems work smoothly and consistently. It’s a tall order that can put a lot of pressure on you and your team. It’s with this mindset that EtherWAN created the Customer Experience Lab.

To help ITS organizations successfully navigate these changes, EtherWAN established the EtherWAN Customer Experience Lab to help ITS teams receive firsthand experience across the many types of linked technologies. Located at the EtherWAN headquarters in Anaheim, California, the EtherWAN Customer Experience Lab is a partnership with ITS innovators across the ITS technology spectrum. The goal is for you and your ITS team to learn about the latest ITS technologies in a product agnostic place so you can experience firsthand how the myriad of technologies work together, along with the pros and cons of each for your organization. GRIDSMART was one of the first companies to step up to the plate and send their solution for use in the lab.

Technology represented in the Customer Experience Lab includes mock traffic intersections with controllers, stoplights, sensors, and surveillance. These intersections, among other technology, are connected to a 4-screen Central Monitoring System (CMS) controlling all functionality and showcasing software from partners.

EtherWAN was founded by NASA engineers back in 1996. It is this same culture of innovation and devotion to flawless execution that led to the creation of the Customer Experience Lab. NASA has a reputation for relentless testing before going live with a project. With the increasing stakes in the ITS world, this mindset can help catch potential problems before it’s too late.

The goal of the EtherWAN Customer Experience Lab is to help you answer the questions: What if my ITS organization decides to implement (x)? What will the impact be? How will it work in our existing system? How will it improve our existing system? Do we have the right people in place with the right technology experience we need to make this work? By being able to answer these questions on the front end, you and your team will have the confidence to move forward. Peace of mind is one of those things that can’t be put into a budget, and as the saying goes, “Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts.”

The EtherWAN Customer Experience Lab will help you and your organization to:

  1. Connect a potential project to ROI
  2. Unite your team in focus, prioritization, and commitments
  3. Expose any organizational silos that could derail a project
  4. Help future proof your organization

Benjamin Franklin famously said, “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” We at EtherWAN Systems, GRIDSMART, and our other Customer Experience Lab partners couldn’t agree more.

EtherWAN holds events at the lab throughout the year that are open to all ITS organizations. We invite you to call us at (714) 779-3800 to learn more.
